Session 10 Peer Review

This session was a peer review session for our my blogs. This was very beneficial for me because I was able to not only get feedback from my peers, but also see their work, which helped show me what I need to add and gather inspiration on ways to improve my site. All my feedback except Carlyn’s was very positive and did not mention anything to change, which I wish it did. There is always room to improve so I wish I received more advice and feedback about things I could improve. Carlyn’s advice was very helpful and made me realize that I have to upload my stuff from padlet and change a part of my introduction post. I have gone and done this, so it is now fixed. Overall I took a lot away from this session and am happy with how it went. I am thanful we had it because it helped me realized there are some things I need to change and add.

Session 9

For this session we met with Fiona in order to discuss what is expected for the PPD section of our hand-in. We then had the rest of our session to work on our PPD, which was nice because I realized I had much more to do then I thought. Because this is a digital hand-in, all of our research work/ SDS work will be featured on our myblogs. I have the work, I am just having slight difficulties figuring out exactly how I want to organize everything on my website. I believe the best way for me to go about this is to just take a day and do it all. I am happy that this term I have stayed up to date on doing my blog posts, so that relieves a lot of stress, since all I really have to do is find the best way to organize my work.

During this session I also realized that I had missed a reflection post, so all my other post numbers were off. It was really confusing for me tp figure out which one was incorrect and missing, but luckily I was able to find out and correct the problem. Overall I would say that this session was very informative and productive.

Session 8

For this session we worked on our PPD and individually met with Carlyn in order to check in on how we were doing on our Zine. This was an incredibly beneficial session because it allowed us time to get our work done. I do struggle getting into deep focus mode when in class, however I was proud of myself for getting a lot done today. During my time with Carlyn we discussed where I was at with my Zine and what I could improve. We both agreed that one of my shoots no longer matched the overall aesthetic of my zine and that I should remove it. I completely agreed with this because I had done the shoot for SDS over break, which was before I had my concept set. Although this is a minor set back I know it will be fine and doing this will make a positive impact on my zine in the end.

Session Seven

For this session we worked on our PR package. We worked on a creating a written description of our PR event, then worked on creating invitations and press release statement for the event. This class was helpful in terms of being able to get lots of work done, however I was not able to get into deep focus. I was able to finish my written description and start the layout for my invitation, but I wish I was able to get much more done. I struggle focussing when it comes to writing assignments, which is something I am working on getting better at. I think I can focus on writing more when I am alone, because when I am with people I distract myself and do not stick to the task at hand. I am going to continue to work on this and hopefully will improve.

PR Event Description

My Zine is called eighteen because it calls out the unrealistic beauty standards Seventeen magazine creates for young women. The zine features multiple sexist advertisements from nineteen-sixties and seventies Seventeen magazines that have been drawn on with responses to the insanity of the ads. For the PR event I want to take the edited advertisements and plaster them all over the barbican. In order to advertise this event we will send invitations out to many different influencers to come and take photos of the adverts shown all over the Barbican. This will draw in more people to come see the posters at the Barbican and get people talking.

Session 6

In this session we were briefed on what we should have done at this point and then had the rest of the session to work on stuff we needed to do. While I do love sessions like these because they give me time in class to do my work, sometimes I can struggle to totally focus on my work in class because I distract myself with my classmates. That is something I am working on. I also enjoy sessions like these because they allow me to get my peers opinions on my work if I am struggling to decide between somethings. I am proud of myself this term for not procrastinating as much, which is something I have been working on, so it feels nice to see improvement in that aspect.

During this session I primarily worked on editing my video. I started editing in iMovie even though I know we are supposed to use premier, because I just do not understand premier at all, however we do have a session with Sing coming up, so I can ask questions and learn during that. Overall I would say this session was pretty successful and I am happy with how it went.

Session 5

During this session we discussed the short film we have to make for our final project. We then worked in pairs in order to experiment and create our own short film. I worked with Harrison and had lots of fun. I was very grateful for this session because it allowed me to get a little more practice working on films. I ran into some struggles during class since I was not used to the software we were using. I know with more practice and asking questions in Sing’s class I will get better, it will just take time and practice. I think this was an overall super beneficial for me because now I know what questions I need to ask in Sing’s class, so that I can understand the software better.

For the SDS I started putting together my short film. So far it is going pretty well, however I think I could work on my editing/ transitions a little more. I still need more videos, which I will get in my next few shoots, however so far I think it is looking really good. I think between each clip I want to include photos of the sexist advertisements since that ties into my PR idea. I am going to try this once I get all my clips and hope it looks good.

Session 4

For this session we went over our SDS work (which was our rough draft of our PR Idea) with a peer. This was super beneficial because it allowed me to gain feedback and improve my work. I also learned more about what a proper PR proposal looks like, so I will know how to improve my rough draft. We also worked on creating squares that will be used in our PR pack. I definitely want to go back and change the squares I created when I have all my media, but for now I am happy with what I put together. I felt very prepared for this class because I had all the tools necessary, however I could have had more media, which I will create this week. I also met with Carlyn and discussed my zine and what I had done so far. This went really well. Now I know exactly what I am going to do and have a clear vision of the direction I am going for and what needs to be done. Overall I feel very prepared and I am excited to continue to create and work on my zine.

Session 3

During this session we worked in groups, which I really enjoyed. I used to really dislike working in groups in school, however I noticed I have really enjoyed it at UAL.

For our task we were handed a zine from previous students and had to work together in order to create a PR event. I enjoyed being able to take a break from thinking about my zine and work on something else. It also really helped working in a group so we could combine all of our skills and come together and create solid ideas.

This session was very beneficial for me because I was feeling very lost and confused on the PR section of our project. Before this session I knew little to nothing about PR events/packages (which was why I was feeling lost). This session taught me so much more about PR which helped lead me to finally coming up with the idea for my zine’s PR event. I feel much more relaxed now that I have finally come up with a solid idea for my zine, so overall I feel like I can say that this session went incredibly well!

Session 2

For this session we were instructed to meet at the barbican and create content for our PR package. Although I love the barbican, I was having a hard time thinking of ideas for the pr event for my particular zine. I just felt that the barbican did not match the aesthetic of my zine and that kew gardens would work better because I did a shoot there already. I know I will be able to create a PR event which includes the Barbican, I just have to get creative!

I obviously still took photos and videos while at the barbican and I am quite happy with how some of them turned out. Looking back at this now, I do wish I would have gathered more photos of just the barbican itself, instead of photos of people at the barbican. I think that I was just feeling very uninspired on the PR aspect of it, so I took more of an editorial aspect while shooting. I may just go back and gather some more images. Besides that I am very pleased with how this session went and I am excited to see what I come up with as my PR event.
