Session 4

For this session we went over our SDS work (which was our rough draft of our PR Idea) with a peer. This was super beneficial because it allowed me to gain feedback and improve my work. I also learned more about what a proper PR proposal looks like, so I will know how to improve my rough draft. We also worked on creating squares that will be used in our PR pack. I definitely want to go back and change the squares I created when I have all my media, but for now I am happy with what I put together. I felt very prepared for this class because I had all the tools necessary, however I could have had more media, which I will create this week. I also met with Carlyn and discussed my zine and what I had done so far. This went really well. Now I know exactly what I am going to do and have a clear vision of the direction I am going for and what needs to be done. Overall I feel very prepared and I am excited to continue to create and work on my zine.

Session 3

During this session we worked in groups, which I really enjoyed. I used to really dislike working in groups in school, however I noticed I have really enjoyed it at UAL.

For our task we were handed a zine from previous students and had to work together in order to create a PR event. I enjoyed being able to take a break from thinking about my zine and work on something else. It also really helped working in a group so we could combine all of our skills and come together and create solid ideas.

This session was very beneficial for me because I was feeling very lost and confused on the PR section of our project. Before this session I knew little to nothing about PR events/packages (which was why I was feeling lost). This session taught me so much more about PR which helped lead me to finally coming up with the idea for my zine’s PR event. I feel much more relaxed now that I have finally come up with a solid idea for my zine, so overall I feel like I can say that this session went incredibly well!

Session 2

For this session we were instructed to meet at the barbican and create content for our PR package. Although I love the barbican, I was having a hard time thinking of ideas for the pr event for my particular zine. I just felt that the barbican did not match the aesthetic of my zine and that kew gardens would work better because I did a shoot there already. I know I will be able to create a PR event which includes the Barbican, I just have to get creative!

I obviously still took photos and videos while at the barbican and I am quite happy with how some of them turned out. Looking back at this now, I do wish I would have gathered more photos of just the barbican itself, instead of photos of people at the barbican. I think that I was just feeling very uninspired on the PR aspect of it, so I took more of an editorial aspect while shooting. I may just go back and gather some more images. Besides that I am very pleased with how this session went and I am excited to see what I come up with as my PR event.

Session 1

It was nice to finally be back in class after such a long break. I really enjoyed being able to see everyone again. During this session we created a concept board and worked on our customer profile board. I already had created a Pinterest board over break in order to gain inspiration/ direction for my zine. This made putting together my concept board quick and easy. Additionally, I had finished my customer profile board over break, because I thought that it was part of our SDS work. Because I had done a good amount of work over break, I felt extremely prepared. Later in the session we were instructed to upload our work from class and zine proposals to padlet. I love being able to see everyone’s inspiration/ plan for their individual zines and how we each responded to the ‘theme’ in different ways . We then went over our work and ideas with a peer, which was beneficial as always because I was able to receive some feedback on the work I had done so far. Overall this session went very well, it felt amazing to feel over-prepared, and I would not change anything!

Zine Session

This session was really special. For this class we met at JPS and got to look through the Zine archive in order to gain inspiration for our upcoming project. It was incredibly inspiring to see all the zines and see how creative and personalized we can make ours. It was neat to see the different ways that different zines were binded. I also just really enjoyed seeing the contents from each zine. They were all different and it was very cool to be able to see how diverse they all were. This showed me that you can truly make a zine about anything and it can have any aesthetic you want. Overall this was an amazing session and it was great to use this resource LCF provides us. I will definitely returning to the archive for research and inspiration on future projects.
